What tele for Canon 40d?

Thinking about Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS or Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 SP Di VC. What one is the best to go for?

I have owned the Canon and didn't like it the IS system is the old IS system and I found it not to be a particularly sharp lens, it is outclassed on image quality by the much cheaper 55-250 IS, I now have the Tamron which is a much better lens optically and the IS system is far superior.

So I would recommend the Tamron which is also supplied with a lens hood which you don't get with the Canon.

+1 for the Tamron. It's better built, sharper, has proper decent ring-type ultrasonic AF and the IS/VC is much more effective than that on the Canons.

Easy.
