Cracking shots all.

Just suggest if they are coming into your garden often then get a chair outside the window, sit in it and wait for them to appear. Most birds don't see you as a threat when you are sitting down.

Similarly to OldBoy's suggestion above, I sit in the open front door with my camera tripoded (more comfortable that way, as much as anything else!). It's amazing how a little bit of food overcomes wildlife's natural shyness! Here's "my" Vole (they've been around for years but I always refer to whichever appears as "my" Mr Squeak - I'd guess "he" must be at least 2nd or 3rd generation from when I started). So I give you Mr Squeak @ f/5.6, 1/25


It's also worth thinking about the backdrop to your subject, setting it off against a bland/simple background really helps maximise the impact. Another from my doorway @ F/4, 1/60

It depends! If the subject is some rare species then I'd agree but otherwise, I reckon BG is as important as FG
