Which SLR??

Hi all!

I'm new to phtography and was looking at just a digital camera but I think i'll splash the extra cash and get an SLR.

I mainly take pics of my cars and mates cars etc. Also i'm going to New York and I want some good quality pics!

I dont wanna spend more than £300 bearing in mind this is my first SLR!

I want something thats easy to use, nothing to fancy.

Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated!

Thanks in advance

Hi Danny and welcome to the forums. Basically you can pick from any of the entry level dslrs from any of the leading camera manufacturers and know that you'll be getting a good camera capable, in the right hands, of taking brilliant photographs.

You obviously know your budget, so the next step is find cameras that fit within it and the best place to probably start is here. Once you've shortlisted a few, go to a camera shop where they'll let you handle the cameras and hopefully take a few test shots. See which camera fits your hands the best, so your fingers can reach all the control knobs and buttons easily and then check out the menu system to see if you navigate your way around it with ease.

Then go away find the best deal you can for the camera you like the best and buy it, but make sure you get it from a recognised dealer. Be wary from buying from abroad, because they may offer the best price but it may not come with a waranty that is valid in the UK.

Hi Danny,

If you could stretch your budget by another £100 you may increase your options, but sadly no other photographer can tell you which camera you should buy. It's a personal decision because we all have different requirements. However, I would look at packages from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus and Pentax to see what you find for the kind of money you want to spend.

Around £300 will get you just about every brands entry level DSLR, but it will likely be the body only, you might need to stump up an extra £60+ to get a kit lens included.

Well i recently bought a second hand Canon 450D for exactly £300 and this is an excellent price. Next to the 450D was the 1000D (I realise that the new one has come out, but it still takes excellent photos) and that was only £20 over you budget so why dont you sniff around in the Canon brand. Although I'd be quick if I were you, shops will be stocking with the Canon 1100d soon.
Happy Hunting

See for around £420 you can have a new DSLR body + lens. I think you should consider for a new body. The cameras you can consider are Nikon D3100, Canon 1000d, Canon 1100d. Also before buying a better idea to go to local camera shop and try out these cameras.
