How far do you think we are from a true HDR video/stills camera that continuously records and if you need a still you just extract a frame?

Well if it ever arrives the "decisivie moment" will be a thing of the past and the art/craft photography as we know it will end and I will hang up my cameras for good...next question.

For photojournalists it would probably be a dream camera as video is out of necessity becoming more important in their repertoire, and for that reason it will likely come at some point. However it isn't a way I'd want to use a camera either. Besides the requirement to hunt through a gazillion frames to find the right still, it would also take away the challenge of creating the image that I want.

This discussion is one i had with my wife, do we need video on DSLR's? I say no, SLR's are for photography video camera's explain themself's if every SLR had video in built I to will hang my camera's up

Its not so much video but a very fast motordrive (60 fps)

Video on dSLR - yes please!

I'll be the first to upgrade my Canon 1D Mark 2 N when a successor has HD video. At the moment I use the dSLR and a Canon XM1 camcorder. I mostly shoot wildlife and the problem of carrying both cameras and all the kit necessary for wildlife shooting (tripods, heads, long lenses etc.) means that I only take one system or the other never both.

When I can shoot HD video using the same kit as I use for stills can't come soon enough for me.

If sensors had a much larger dynamic range would they still be HDR? Surely that would be the normal?
