I stumbled across this little bug at the weekend.

Critique welcome good or bad

Great shot, I like the depth of field, pretty much bang on.

Cool little fellah. Love the colours in the shot, but that angle is a little hard to see enough of the bug to make it out well?

Good colors, seems nice & sharp in the right area - the head - but I;d crop off the extreme left of the shot where that white patch on the branch is. really light areas of photos tend to attract your eye away from the main subject, maybe a square crop?

It was quite windy and in gusts so I couldn't get a better angle in focus but agree that the could have been better placed.

Cathus I also agree about the crop and is not something I would have considered but you are right it makes for a much better shot.

Thanks for the comments guys as I really appreciate them and hopefully can improve my skills as a result!

Cracking shot and dof. People don't realise these chaps have wings as you can't see them. I normally use a bit of grass to move him to the right position as they don't fly off.

Love the detail, did you use a macro lens?

Yes I used a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens and I have found it to be a really good lens for my limited skills.

I can't justify a better one but it is perfect for me!
