Hi,
Gutted!
My Tamron 17-50mm non VC lens appears to be faulty. Mounted on my Canon 550D it can be ok for a couple of shots, but if I alter the focal length then it can lock the camera up and displays the error number 01, accompanied by a message which says communication with the lens and body has been interupted and cleaning the contacts may cure the problem.
Cleaning the contacts doesn't cure the problem. Altering the focal length causes the problem to occur. At first it seemed that anything between 17mm to about 28mm was OK, but beyond 28mm caused the lens to pack up. However, I've subsequently found that if shooting at 17mm is OK, then extending all the way to 50mm can sometimes be OK too, but pulling back again from fully extended can invoke the fault. I suppose it could be a "dry joint", or a tear in a flexible circuit ribbon, or something else beyond my technical understanding.
Have any members experienced a similar problem with this or other Tamron lenses? I believe the only service repairer recognised by Tamron are the UK importers Intro 2020 (
http://www.intro2020.co.uk/ ) . Have fellow members used the services of Intro 2020 to their satisfaction? Can members suggest any other company they have used that could be recommended for such a repair? I live in Cheshire, but if I have to go wider afield then so be it.
Thanks for reading this post,
Rick.
