Way OT....

As I post this we are awaiting a vote of Confidence in the Canadian House of Commons. We currently have a minority Conservative government. It looks like we are going to have an election either on 2 May or 9 May.

Not that it affects most people here.

As with all things political, it depends on your opinion I would be nice to not have a minority government like we have had. This will be the 4th election in 7 years.

It affects me, Donoreo..... my Photo Club has an AGM planned for the 2nd, Awards Night for 9th. Sure, people can vote and still come along but apparently they'll want to watch the results on TV in the evening. (I'm just a Resident, so I don't get to vote on who takes my taxes..... somebody over the border once said 'No Taxation without Representation'. Pah!)

That all sucks. The election will be on the 2nd of May. I am sure most people will still try to make the AGM and vote. Or just attend the AGM

Well, yes, but.... a friend of mine, who came to Canada four years before me, has been going through the Citizenship process for two years now - apparently he has the same name as a convicted (and currently imprisoned) criminal and it's causing no end of problems - he's had to give his fingerprints three times so far.

I don't think I'll bother - by the time they get around to asking me to sing 'O Canada' the OleTimers Disease will have set in and I won't be able to remember the words. And it's another expense.... I already spent nearly $1500 with payments for medicals and 'admin charges' for the Residents' Card.

Election May 2nd, eh? Well I'd better ask the 'Club Exec' to make a decision - I really hadn't thought that they'd all want to watch results..... though I suppose it's better than Hockey.

That would suck having the same name like that. I could see it causing problems.

Do not worry about the words to O Canada, most born here Canadians would not remember the words if it were not played before every hockey game.

Speaking of hockey, May 2 will be during the second round of the playoffs and some have predicted a lower voter turn out as a result. Well, except in Toronto, of course, where the Leafs will not make make the playoffs again.

Yes, a bit sad about the Maple Leafs (I never worked out why it wouldn't be "Leaves"). I can't think of an equivalent in British soccer, for example. It would be like Liverpool, who've had some poor times lately, not getting into the top six of the Premier League for the next forty years.

Still, Blue Jays start next week.... I've become a fan!

By the sound of it, the Election and the Hockey would definitely make having our AGM a on the same night a bit pointless.
