Thumbs up Help raise money for Japan with your photographs with The Print Aid Project

Hi all,

I'm auctioning the print above to help raise much needed funds for the people of Japan with the Print Aid Project :

http://theprintaidproject.com/portfolio/jim-mortram

You might have seen the feature about the Photo Aid Project in the Photo Radar news (Kindly posted by Amy, thanks) and I think it would be wonderful if a few regulars (Or any newcomers!) from the forums here would submit and/or buy some work... we all need to do our bit, however big or small to help!

Cheers!

Jim

PRESS RELEASE

Photographers raise money for Japan earthquake victims

Three local photographers have set up an international project to help the victims of the Tohoku earthquake in Japan.

The Print Aid Project now involves renowned photographers from around the world who have donated their images to be sold on the project website theprintaidproject.com with all money raised going to the Red Cross charity.

The project is raising money in two ways:

A selection of prints are being sold at a special reduced rate from the website. This allows people to pick up a bargain while helping the charity.

Other limited edition prints will also be sold in a series of charity auctions on this website.

The photographers involved have donated their images and time to the project and set up the website for free. This means that after printing and postage costs, every penny raised will be donated to the victims of the Tohoku earthquake.

One of the project’s founders Pete Carr said:

“In January one of my photographs was sold for £2,000 in the Photos for Fairbridge charity auction. I was astonished and really proud that my work raised so much for a good cause. This really opened my eyes to the potential that my images have to help other people and has inspired me to help set up the Print Aid Project.”

Matt Thomas, who came up with the idea to set up the Print Aid Project with Pete and fellow photographer Dan King, is an experienced fundraiser who is currently planning to travel a third of the way across the world for charity in this year’s Mongolia Rally. He said:

“Nobody who saw the scenes of devastation caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami could fail to be moved. I immediately wanted to help and when I realised that others felt the same we established the Print Aid Project. The response from other photographers wanting to take part has been fantastic.”

Co-founder Dan King:

“Not everyone can afford to bid huge sums of money in a charity auction, so we felt it was important to have two strands to the project and offer the special rate prints as well. We hope that these will be really popular and raise a lot of money for this important cause.”

Further details of the photographers involved and prints available are on the website theprintaidproject.com

Almost 600 views and one comment... (Thanks Karen and thank you Amy for running the story in the news) after all the moaning and vitriol over a paltry £10 fee for this years POTY I am saddened that no one has helped with this cause, a call to arms for all photographers by photographers to help raise money for the people of a country on it's knees... and that country being the one where most forum members buy their expensive equipment from.

Poor show.

I sent my photo in on Sunday but haven't heard anything back. It was the one that won the snow and ice readers mission - the petrol station with snow falling.

If you want to make a donation to a Japanese earthquake/tsunami relef fund it's much simpler to do so by going to the Red Cross, or Save The Children web sites.

Can't find the 'Auction' part of your appeal, just a straight forward £10 a picture sales offer.

Karen : I am sure that they are very busy sorting through submissions at the moment... it took a week for my submission to be answered and selected.

Abers : "My" print is for sale and I guess potentially auction later... as the blurb states many photos are now for direct sale at a price of £10 and some shots to be auctioned at a later date.

RE Donating... 3 clicks and it's done, 1 website, 2 choose the image, 3 click & buy... and all the money raised goes to the charity.

I'd really posted here (It's not my project, I just felt such a cause needed support) in the hopes that people would actually submit some work as well as maybe donating or buying any prints...
