RAW to Jpeg Conversion

I've been shooting in the RAW, so to speak, + 1 x jpeg. I have altered the exposure on a photograph. However, the image remains in RAW format. Do I need special software to convert the adjusted RAW image to Jpeg?

Whatever you altered the RAW exposure with should also have the ability to export to JPG?

Hi John,

What software do you currently use?

Basically a RAW file isn't a picture - it's raw data. The idea is that you develop the RAW file and save it as another format. Personally, I save my data as PSD files in Photoshop as they support layers but are smaller than TIFFs. I also keep my original RAW files.

I've written a tutorial and FAQ on RAW vs JPEG on my website, why not click here and have a look. It explains all the basics about what RAW is and how it's different to JPEG.

Don't understand what you are saying? If you shoot Raw plus Jpeg then you already have a Jpeg file. If you make changes to a Raw file then you should have an option to save as a Tiff or Jpeg. Just select Jpeg and give it a name.

Don't forget to convert to 8 bit if you want to save as a jpeg.

Keith has it - you won't see the option in your software to save as jpeg unless you convert to 8 bit first...
