How far back does your photographic life go folks ?

Which one was my favourite ? Without a shadow of a doubt the KONICA C35 Automatic

And not a CANON or NIKON in sight.

Cor, this is the thread to make one feel old!

My first photographic memory would be taking a snap of the railway crossing and signal box which is now non existant! I used an old 110 camera and remember being really proud of the image. I showed a teacher at school and thanks to his help, I dipped my toes into the fabulous world of photography. I too went through the period of Zenith before upgrading when I got my first job to a Pentax P30. A second ME Super body soon followed and I was in heaven!. Then along came clan Nikon the rest is history.
I must say though, I feel extremely privalaged that I cut my teath in "real" photography and have had the pleasure of traditional techniques and darkrooms. I still find the whole process so much more rewarding than the screen and the rush to buy the latest over priced CD that allows me to mimmic, but then being a wrinkly means I am bound to say that!

When I started making this list I thought, "Yes, I've had a few cameras". Even now I'm not convinced the list is complete and I feel that one or two may have slipped through the cracks. In the late 60's and 70's I was loaned quite a few cameras and I can't remember with any accuracy which ones I owned and which were on loan. The dates are reasonably accurate though.
If you think this list is long, don't ask about lenses, flashguns, etc!

2002-2007 Practicka G2.0 (digital)
2007-2009 Samsung S85 (compact)
2008- Olympus OM10 + various other old film cameras
2009 - some crappy Vivitar that was sitting around the house.
2009 -2011 Nikon D60
2011- Nikon D90

My list is nothing like Jet Kits or any others..... hopefully it will grow to that one day

Hi Marcus,
I don't think you really want your list to grow as long as mine.
In the bad old days if you wanted something for your photo album or to send to auntie Mable, then 35mm was fine. If you wanted to be able to read the headlines of a newspaper on an 8"x10" print you needed a 2¼" square. If you wanted proper quality it was 4"x5" sheet film, and if you were absolutely annal then the only option was 8"x10" film.
Happily, today we don't need all that and a half-way decent digital camera will knocks the socks off my old stuff. I would cautiously suggest that with the exception of the Linhof and the Wild, which are specialist cameras for specific tasks, I could have replaced the lot with my current Nikon.
Sadly, cameras ain't what they used to be. You could hammer nails in with my old Nikon F, it's been drowned in a river, drenched in monsoons, clattered against mountainsides and fallen from a first floor balcony onto tarmac (with a tripod attached!). After the fall Nikon charged me £4.50 (1971) to fix it, and £1.50 for a new lens hood. That's the only time it's seen a repair facility, and after 45 years it's still going strong. Today's cameras will not do any of that and seem to have lifespans built into them, so your collection will undoubtedly grow but not for the same reasons.
Still, you've got 50 years to catch-up anyway.

My history is very small. Got have i had this camera that long! its an antique in the dslr world. I'm way overdue an upgrade. That d7000 is calling not sure i can resist any longer!

Ordered my new camera yesterday. I went for the Nikon d5100 in the end can't wait for delivery of my new toy!

My goodness, you opened up an ancient thread!

I started taking photographs with this old beauty, a (probably) 1947 Zeiss Ikon. It took paper (roll) film and combined with a lightmeter, which I could somehow handle as a kid, you could get amazing photographs.



At the moment I use a Sony DSC-HX100V bridge, as I cannot handle a DSLR.

The praktica was my first slr it was great heavy chunk of metal which with the carl zeiss lens was great.
I am starting to use on my dslr love it But the time it takes to get one image with it. is it worth. well
I have put my work on but well lets say they could be a lot better. Not like photo of the day great image.
I have so many vintage cameras but looking to get the nikon f to play with with the 1.4 lens just because as a photographer you become lazy so I stick to my d60 & d3000 until i master manual with the carl zeiss lens with guess work on metering fun.
