Monitors.

I'm thinking about getting a new monitor, has anyone seen/used or know anything on this one. Specs are all there.

Or should I go for this one a bit over the budget though.

Your links aren't working, so I can't see what you're referring to I'm afraid.

But I have this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-lg...-1080p-full-hd

And would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Brilliant quality, brilliant looks, brilliant price

Sorry about the links sorted them now. Can you get different colour gamuts on it Matt? and does it tilt to portrait.

It depends rather on what you want the monitor to do littlebro - whether it's primary use will be for photo editing or gaming/video. TN monitors are generally better for the latter whereas IPS and PVA monitors are better suited to photo editing. For an explanation of the different panel types have a look here (a little light reading )

Although it is not clarified on your PC World link page I would imagine the HP monitor is a TN type, whereas I know the Dell to be IPS.

The Dell gets good reviews for its price level: Here is one and here is another.

Bearing in mind that the pcbuyit price for the Dell does not include VAT it makes the Dell about £60 pricier than the HP.

The 2ms response time of the LG monitor recommended by Matt points to it being a TN panel type and so would be excellent for gaming.

As regards gamut, you are probably looking at sRGB in that price range rather than Adobe RGB. The latter needs a wide-gamut monitor but, unless you spend a lot of money on a pro monitor, the sRGB you are most likely to use is often compromised on lower cost wide-gamut monitors. The HP LP2475W is an example of that.

I hope this might help.

Two currently highly rated monitors from Viewsonic.

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/23-vi...300-cd-m-14-ms

and

http://www.morecomputers.com/extra.a...ferer=FroogleA

Unfortunately they both seem to be suffering from stock shortages, but from what I've read they are both worth waiting for, especially the first one.

I too am looking to replace my current Viewsonic 19" monitor with something larger. I've had Viewsonic monitors for a long while now and they have been excellent.

Personally I'm going to wait for the first one as it classified as a professional monitor at a consumer price.

Thanks guys, have to get my mind sorted ( and finances lol) round them, must admit I'm leaning towards the Dell but as its mainly for photoshopping and general use its just that would it be worth it for me as my little Sony TFT has been good which I presume is a TN. Hmm ponder some more.

Good for you littlebro - it's only money

Let us know how you get on with the Dell and what you think of it after a period of use. I'm sure that would interest other visitors to this forum.

Just for general information, here is a link to the TFT Central review of the Viewsonic VP2365wb suggested by Ashleyj. It uses the same LG.Displays e-IPS panel as the Dell U2311H so performance is similar but in the case of the tested examples the Dell had the overall edge, albeit at slightly greater cost. TFT Central says the Dell is a later model than the Viewsonic and I know the Dell has been around for quite a while so perhaps the scarcity of the Viewsonic model mentioned by Ashleyj is because it is being run out?

It does annoy me that monitors seem to be all pretty much 1920 x 1080 these days no matter what size you buy HDTV has a lot to answer for grrrr.

I have a 24" DGM as my primary display (1920 x 1200) a few year old now but I love it, I also have a samsung 22" as a secondary display the samsung is definately more geared up for watching films etc but they are bot calibrated with a Spyder 3 Pro which was well worth the investment.

The Dell monitors are really good also (I use them at work) so I think you have made a good choice there.
