Will the d400 or d500 be full frame?

Is only a matter of time until all slrs will be full frame? Tech alway filters down from the pro models aps-c can not squeeze much more mega pixels than 24 which will be in the new sony and maybe the d400 surely the d500 will be full frame? where does this leave us with all olur expensive glass?

I wouldnnt think theyd scrap aps-c sensors, full frame is much more expensive, stick these in every camera the prices rise and there will be no more entry level priced cameras loosing the comanys a lot of money, Thats my opinioin, i have no idea what nikkon have planned with the models youve mentioned,

Lots of stuff over on Thom Hogan's site about this, including a rundown of the DX lens lineup and some comments on the new 40mm Micro DX. Will DX disappear? No, not in the lower end cameras, and I think that means there will be a semi-pro camera like the D300s is now for some time to come. I've got used to the DX form factor and don't want a bigger camera. A bit better noise performance at high ISO would be nice but I don't want it that often. More often, I appreciate the "crop factor", and like my lenses to be where they are for me.

Yeah good article. I'm sure it will not disappear completely it will be used on the entry level cameras. But the d300s replacement or the generation after that may go full frame. The artical was comparing micro 4/3 dx and fx lenses from nikkor. I was unaware that they had made any micro 4/3 lenses? Where is the m4/3 camera, whens it coming out?

No, it's just saying what's available for m4/3, not Nikon m4/3 lenses. Thom sees the m4/3 cameras as competition for the D3100 and D5100.

The D700 is pretty much the FX equivalent of the D300, so in a sense what you're looking for as the possible D300s replacement is there already.

Chris is right. My daughter drives a D700 while her poor Dad has to live with a D300s. The two cameras are virtualy identical, but while I can steal her glass she can't pinch mine. Paradoxically she can use all my old Nikon F glass, but I can't because it's all pre-77 and won't fit the DX lens mounts.
I don't think they'll atempt to replace the D300s with a FX camera because it would kill the D700, being £800 cheaper. Also Nikon's existing customer base wouldn't stand for having to replace all their glass at a stroke.

The question to ask is how many DX cameras have Nikon sold and how many FX? Remember that Nikon were late into the full frame market, so why would they move everything to full frame, as they have sold millions of DX lenses.
