A while ago we talked of Gilden shooting styles and if it would work in the UK... apparently the answers yes!

Great video :-) Not sure I could ever be as in-your-face as him though. Although, I had run in this week with some idiot who bruised my arm just for photographing a parade! I suppose being American helps though, they do tend to have more confidence, especially the New Yorkers! He sort of reminded me of a rougher Joel Meyeorwitz. Are you going to visit Derby, Jim, to see the work on show?

I could do that if I have a nurse on hand, to remove the lense from my bottom!

He had a long chat with that lady, even her friend was stroking her hair incase he was going to photograph her.

Interesting he seemed to only take people of a certain age and weren't particularly mobile.

I would definitely kick back if someone was in my face as close as that. What annoyed me in that film was how little effort there was to tell people what he was doing other then the lengthy interview and the patronising age guess to keep him onside. It surprised me how many people just walked on without asking what the hell are you doing - must be something to do with the CCTV world we live in. Like Abers says he goes for a certain age - like to see reactions from a few young men to it.

Not sure about all the remarks about Gilden being age specific!

Have any of you seen all his work for Magnum, the Yakuza, Haiti, gangs and gangsters?

Work in Haiti...

In each of these clips/situations he seems to have been accepted into the groups that he's documenting. I wonder if there had been some set-up/agreement before he arrived with his camera? You don't just stumble into these people.

He appeared to have some sort of minder with him when he was in Derby, albeit a fairly inoffensive type.

I'm not denigrating his work, altough I don't find it particularly striking, I'm just wondering how he goes about it.
