Unhappy Bridge not opening in CS5.

Hi,

I have CS5 on both my PC (XP) and laptop (Vista) and Bridge will not open in either.all I get is a message "The application has failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application". I have Googled and looked on Adobe site, and although it appears to be a common fault I have not yet found a solution.

Any one on PR land able to suggest anything?

Look in your Event Viewer for Applications and services logs and find the error for CS5. It should be marked critical. Click on this to select and open the message window. The message should indicate where the problem is, and I suspect it may be a DLL file. If so, then it just needs replacing with a version that isn't corrupt.

Thanks for the tip, I gave it a try but found nothing, still, worth a try.

Did you check all of the event viewers? It might be in the Administrative Events folder. Whenever a error is generated it will write it to the event folder, but you might have to logon as Administrator to see it.

Sorry! no luck, the Administrative Events folder is empty, circled round everywhere with no joy. Speaking to a friend with Windows 7, he also has the same problem.

I wonder if it could have something to do with 'permissions'. Sorry can't advise how to do this on XP although Vista might be the same way as W7. For W7 click on Start (bottom left) > All Programs and then scroll up to Adobe Bridge CS5. Right click on it and choose the option to 'Run As Administrator'.

Looking around the web there appears to be a lot of people with this error.

Most sensible suggestion is that it relates to DLL handling, specifically the number of DLLs that are loaded, as it seems to be found across software, hardware and OS versions - suggestions include Symantec probs, viruses and Dell hardware (but I reckon they're all tripping the error rather than the root cause)

Solutions seem sparse but I'd be tempted to uninstall PS/Bridge and reinstall as a first step (not repair!). Failing that working (and it may work but I'd be slightly surprised if it did!), I'd set up one of the systems again from scratch, installing PS early on. I bet that would work but it's not one to be undertaken lightly, I appreciate (although my systems are geared to regular reinstalls every few months anyway)
