Ah but nothing 'aint worth nothing if it's free.

Can be a transfer of funds, just stop subscribing to repetitious magazines. You get a magazine 10 times a year anyway as part of the deal.

It's up to you Andy, but I'd miss your contributions.

I agree with Abers.

POTY has always been a bizarre competition and had a serious restructure coming to it. The entry fee is not that extreme. I see it as akin to the way the French health service is managed - there is a small fee to see the doctor; not so much as to stop the sick turning up, but perhaps just enough to stop the malingerers from wasting the doctors' time.

I suggest a nice cup of hot chocolate and steering clear of everywhere except the forums

Agree with much of what has been said above Andy. Don`t mix the forum with the POTY comp. Just leave the POTY alone as the money making venture it is turning in to Your contributions will be missed on the forum where the genuine, longer term people with a love for photography and mutual support hang out.

@ jinky - I agree, a lot of people will join the site just to enter the POTY and have no other contribution to the community at all. I have seen it happen elsewhere. Indeed, on another site, one of the round winners won a camera and, immediately that he received it, he put it on sale in the sale or swap section.

As an artist utilising photography as a medium, I now physically find myself seeking other galleries providing a proffessionalism and forum that are more in keeping with similar ethics and philosophy. Photography at the heart!
Sad to hear you say that but can understand why you feel that way. I hope all the replies will convince you otherwise.

Andy I agree with Jinky's point. Not one single person who won the big prize has ever made a contribution to the forums or photo radar site since winning. I know they don't have to but that is the difference between people you know on these forums and some people who enter the comp?

Sorry folks I can't seem to find the original post on this - can someone tell me in a nutshell what is happening with the POTY competition - have we got to pay to enter now?

Thanks Silversanpper1 - will post a reply when I've thought about the implications for the content and the entrants.

Hi Andy, that's sad news.

What happens if you join another site and their policies change? Will you leave and look for yet another home?

Isn't it about the 'community' here in the Forums; the advice, the friendly competition, the banter, the critiquing of pics, sharing your knowledge? Please don't punish yourself and your friends here on the Forum for the action of others.
