Annual Event

Does the forum have an annual meet up event? If not, why not? Has it been tried and did it fail or has it never been tried?

Personally, I think it's a great idea and would certainly be interested. What are other peoples thoughts?

I've not heard of any, probably because we all live so far apart. I've heard of a few meeting up at the Focus on Imaging Show and a few who live locally to each other meeting up for a shoot in the proximity but that is all.

I think that with people living so far apart it would be a nightmare to try to get a meet arranged. It would have to be somewhere central and even then some would be travelling long distances.

I think it's a really good idea Chris.

Okay, so maybe not everybody would want to meet up or would be able to because of distance or time constraints but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be worthwhile arranging for those that could.

If you are appointing yourself Chris then the first thing I'd suggest you do is find out where all of the 'regulars' on the forum are located, then see where a mid-point would be and research an interesting meet-up location.

Even if only 3 or 4 people attended it would be fun I'm sure and would probably grow in numbers at future meets if it were a success.

We frormed a group for meetings back in the days of DCM forum, and still meet up occasionally, mainly in the south east.

Perhaps Pradar can organise something nationally when they've got all those £10's in. A weekend in Bath would be nice.

I agree that it would be a good idea and think that obviously the South Coast is pretty central so let me know where and when ( assuming I am invited of course!) !?

What about having a photographic competition and, in the true traditions of the forum, the winner gets to organise everything?

I think it's a good idea DD, but I also think that it'll depend on where it is as to how many will attend or not. Even if it's moved around location from year to year, some poeple will find it easy to attend , others will not.

In principle I'm for it, in practice it would probably have to be within an hour or two's drive for me to consider it.

Cheers, Sie

I used to be a member of the Audi TT forum and that was national. Once a year they organised a HUGE event (usually at a racing track and varied the location each year) and though the tickets were expensive, you got to drive your TT round the track. Obvioulsy this wouldn't be as extravagant, but if tickets were sold to fund a marque or something, with food and a beer tent (a must) located somewhere photogenic obviously, then if you know months in advance, it can be a mini adventure. Maybe a bank holiday weekend when people have more time. Stalls could be organised selling camera and outdoor goods. Mgiht take some organising but I think it may be a good idea, for next year. The lakes in Cumbria, or The Peak District springs to mind. And I think it would be nice to put faces to names too!
