The simple answer is the 7D is the better camera but the 60D does have an articulated screen, a photo rating system, basic onboard editing, more creative filters and a CA dial lock.

The creative filters, editing and rating can all be applied after the shot has been taken on a PC so they are not deal breakers for me. A modification can be done by canon to do the CA lock on the 7D if it is a problem although I have never had an issue with shooting in the wrong mode more often with incorrect ISO or WB, which just leaves the articulated screen.

The 7D is a more rugged build has a faster burst at 8FPS, More AF points take a look at this if you want the differences but ask yourself do you need the 7D over the 60D there is a big price difference between the two which could equate to extra kit such as a lens, memory cards, spare batteries etc.

Ultimately try both in a camera shop if you are still undecided and see which you prefer.

The 7d is the better camera although both share the same sensor as do the 600d and 550d so its down to budget and what you take pictures of. You could get a cheaper body and use more on lenses

I've the 7D and OH has the 60D. If the 60D had been out when I got the 7D I'd probably gone for that as I don't really use the advantages of the 7D but I definitely use the articulating screen on the G11 all the time!

Simple answer is that if you can afford the 7D then get it. I went for the 60D and wish I'd gone for the other.

Here's what to do. Go into Jessops and pick the two up and have a play. There is really no comparison. 60D is very gimmicky.

Wondering what you call a gimmick as they're identical cameras in most respects. There's the articulating screen (excellent getting over the head shots at photocalls, etc) and the locking dial but that's about it!

I'm referring to the photo rating system, basic onboard editing, more creative filters and a CA dial lock. Never used any of them.

Fancy selling me your 60D then, so you can go for the 7D??????? HAHA, people can then call me 60 DD instead of just DD lol.

Ah, right! I only shoot RAW so irrelevant but the lock I'd find very useful (and am contemplating getting it retro-fitted to the 7D as I quite often accidentally move the dial). But then the 7D has a whole bunch of modes I never use (like video, which requires a different skillset - and I've still a long way to go with stills!)
