Thumbs up hello all newbie here

hi just joined this great forum. iam a newbie to digital photography i recently got my self a canon 1100d and have just started getting out and about.iam interested in all types of photography
i have been playing safe using fully automatic mode but iam now experimenting with different settings etc.
yesterday i was out with the camera and was using a cp filter and have noticed on each of the top corners of the shots there is some heavy dark areas is this caused by the filter or could it be something else.

any info would be greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome, sooner you can get out of the automatic modes the better IMHO trouble with auto is it doesn't know what you are taking a picture of so I would suggest looking at AV (aperture priority) and TV Shutter priority.

Regarding the CP filter do you have another filter on your lens such as a UV as the symptoms you describe is called Vignetting which is caused by the filter being visible in the corners of the lens.

If you have another filter on the lens then take it off before putting the CP filter on.

Hi and welcome.
Your CPL problem could be one of two things. As Wavemachine suggested, it could be because you've stacked your filters and the outer rim of the filter is cutting into the image, or it could be that your using an unsuitable lens hood which is effectively doing the same thing. Broadly speaking, something's getting in the way and that's what you need to look for.
