I think the Showcase Gallery should be exactly that - where people hang their work (digitally of course) for others to view - if the photographer is happy enough with their image then what does it matter what anybody else has to say about it, who are they to judge? It's a gallery not a competition. This gallery should be purged of images over a certain period (8 weeks old?), and photographers should only be allowed to upload maybe 1 photo per week, so any one photographer can have a max of 8 photo's in the gallery at any point in time, to stop it becoming a dumping ground.

Blimey Phil I think I have over 500 in my gallery lol

I don't mind having an online portfolio and having to choose my prefferred images for it though. I suppose I just take lots of photographs and like to share them. But I think the gallery is handy for people to search certain genres for inspiration and also for photo radar slide shows or online galleries. You know like when they do themes, like colour red or speed, blur etc... The photos available to look at will be miniscule compared to now.

Hi Karen,
500!! Wow, you prolific uploader you

I was just making suggestions for alternative ways to allow people to show off their work while trying to keep the thing manageable. The idea was maybe smaller in numbers but higher in quality? as people would really have to make a choice on what to put in their space. It might even force them to be more critical of their work and overall improve their skill? And people could still buy more space if they want to use it as an archive or long term storage space, or have large portfolios.

I know what you mean and yeah it sounds good in theory :-) I know what you mean about editing too. My photography teacher constantly told me I had to learn to be " ruthless" with my work and willing to edit and delete. I can't see people wanting to pay for space unless it offers something really worth the money.

Thanks Marcus - It'll be interesting to understand the rationale.

I forgot to suggest a way to upload and tag more than one photograph at a time. Also a way to add a description to sets.

Not yet - you'll be first to know though. POTY launches on Monday, so will prioritise after that.
