mecablitz 45 CL-4 + canon 5d mk2

Hi -

I have a canon 5d mk2 and bought the mecablitz 45 CL-4 on ebay a few mths ago. I didnt realise there were two versions of the flash, ie digital and non digital. I am thinking mine might be the non-digital but even so can I still use it with the 5d mk2 if I buy a lead or adapter for it?

thanks

Karen

It's not easy to give you a yes no answer to this. I can't find what the difference is between the digital & non digital version of the CL4 however I strongly suspect that the difference is the trigger voltage. Under no circumstances should you trigger this flash using the hotshoe, you may do this using the Wein safe sync which will drop the trigger voltage.
The trigger voltage of the non digital version is around 17V which should make it safe to trigger with the PC socket directly (or so I'm told) you might want to check this. 17V is not a very high voltage so you should be OK.

Can I ask though, why did you buy a flash like this over the 'Cobra' type such as the MZ54 or even the Canon ones which offer full E-TTL and much greater power output?

I bought it originally for the mamiya afd and had an adaptor for that. Maybe I should go for the canon flashes after all. Thanks for your help
