Entering the weekend comp on this site

Why Enter the weekend comp ?

1) It's a way of finding out how good you are and how you can improve

2) It makes you think about the different ways to capture a subject

3)It makes you creative in deciding a subject

4) You get ideas from other members

5) You can get critique about your entry, good or bad

6) You take pictures of things that you would have never thought of

7) It makes you plan for a shoot

8) You build up a friendship between members

9) You learn how to handle failure as well as success

10) And above all you become a better photographer.

SO WHY NOT HAVE A GO !!!!

If you would like to add, feel free

Cutter, you forgot to mention 'because it's fun'.

Though for me personally, the fun has gone out of it.

Your right Denise it is fun if you enjoy photography.
Why have you lost your motivation regarding the comp?

I like things simple - I am a simple person - and if there were a simpler method, like 'drag and drop', I guess I would give it another go. It's quite a time consuming process as it stands.

Denise

Denise - the system for uploading pictures to the comp is no more difficult than to the rest of the site. I agree it is a chore to get your head around it first few times and that is bad for a site focused on photography though.
That said I am not technical and have managed to learn how to upload clickable entries without too much problem with advice from others and helped others do the same. Again if you are lucky enough to win and set the poll it raises more complexity but again there are always others around to help.

Give it a go and ask for any help you need.It does help keep your mind working on new challenges.

Denise, if you load your photos from Flickr it is as simple as 'cut and paste', that’s why I load from Flickr and not this site – simples!!

Was just testing your assertion and linked to flickr successfully for the first time. That said I used the same method as with my PR gallery so just the same for me.

Having had images 'hacked' previously from uploading them onto sites (not flickr) I am a bit loathe to upload anything - hence my empty gallery here too.
While on the subject of facilities like flickr, is there anyway to 'lock' a photo so that someone can't download it, work on it with software like photoshop and upload it again? That happened to me a few years back - and not on a photographic site but a creative one, funnily enough - only problem was that the person who did it claimed it was their photo. Fortunately it only went as far as a forum I also used, and spotted it soon enough.
Well, paranoia aside, I haven't given Flickr much of a thought either for the reason above.
My photography is a bit like winking in the dark - only I know I am doing it!

Regards,
Denise

The thing to do is just to upload low resolution images on the small side. You can always look on flickr to see who is looking in from where. I only have contacts I know something of and I do not put much in the way of tags on images so that people can find them. You can make them visible only to friends if you wish so between those methods and size of images it all adds up to make them fairly useless to those that steal. I`ve had people come through to ask if they can use them with credit / links and I decide on the basis of use whether to agree. I`m not aware of having had any stolen yet but wonder why people put full sized files on here and flickr

Thanks for that Jinky (aka Paul), it helps. I never upload any photos anywhere that are bigger than 72 dpi (which is not of high enough resolution to make a print larger than a matchbox)- but for web pages, you only need a photo of low resolution, so unfortunately anything can be ripped off and put on any website, I suppose. I have just spotted another thread on this forum about images appearing in fleabay and that is a bit worrying too.
PS: Where is your Toon avatar from a few years back?

Regards,
Denise
