I'm guessing at their prices, the equipment the sell will be grey imports!

Just done a bit of research, and the cameras they sell are all shipped from HongKong, so yes, grey imports.
I've only recently learned about these, but there are a number of issues related; lack of UK warranty, no CE safety marks, could be held up by customs... best avoided if you want piece of mind when buying!

I've used DigitalRev, I have come across lots of people who have & one of my photomates writes reviews for their website.

They are Hong Kong based. You need to weigh up the risk of buying from overseas versus the amount of cash you'll save.
I've bought lots of stuff from HK & never had any problem or had to return anything.

You may find you get hit with import tax & VAT, you may find you are not, it seems to be quite random. Even with a bill for VAT & import I have saved quite a lot of money on lenses & equipment.

There are risks associated from buying abroad, it depends what is the overriding factor, for me at the time it was saving money.

Same as Cathus, I've bought lenses from DigitalRev (Canon) these come with international warranty. However I wouldn't buy a camera as I believe these have to be returned to HK if they become faulty during warranty.

Hi all, I want to clarify for a few things:

For all purchases from website DigitalRev.com, the price already include with import handling and you can also find the final price at checkout, which is the total you will have to pay and no extra will be needed to get the order to your door.

When purchasing from DigitalRev.com, a 12 months locally serviced warranty will come with your order, which means you can repair your camera locally at an Authorised Repair Centre (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, etc.) without prior approval provided that the fault is due to manufacture defect. For more details, please visit DIGITALREV LOCALLY SERVICED WARRANTY.

Hope this has clarified some concerns.

I bought some pocket wizzards before Christmas, they were delivered without any charge, then a week later I received an invoice from Fedex for VAT & import duty in the post

It's odd, isn’t it? Grey import lenses have International warranties, whereas camera bodies have warranties assigned to them by the country of sale. I have purchased grey import lenses from the USA in the past (though from a London High Street store) with no problems, but Hong Kong is one area I have never purchased anything from. The reason Hong Kong can shift stuff cheaper than most other places in the world (apart from China proper perhaps) is because they have a tax system that encourages prosperity, unlike the tax system we have in the UK and Europe, which is extremely undermining people and prosperity. I am sure you will be OK, but the sting in the tail is exactly how Cathus has said it - a possible bill for VAT and import duty.
