Question free assistant

I am new to DSLR having been taking holiday snaps for years with compacts etc.
My main interest is landscapes and architector.
Is there anyone in the Hinckley area, professional or very good amateur, that would like a free assisant at weekends evenings,so I can learn from them ?.
Or alternatively anyone that can recommend a good club in the same area.
My camera is Nikon D3100 with kit lens and tamron 70-300 (which I had not bothered with the Tamron cheap and nasty)

Hello Ian - welcome to the Forum and to DSLR photography.

You might do better to Google or Yellow Pages your local area to find Photographers in need of assistance. Same goes for the Camera Clubs in your area.

I'm intrigued by your comment about the Tamron - why did you buy it, presuming you did, if you feel it is cheap and tacky?

My better half said to buy the Tamron as a xmas pressy from her so I did as I was told (I like the quite life). To be fare at the time I new little about the lens.
In hindsight (which I could bottle it I would make a fortune) I would have been better to wait till funds allowed for the Nikon or possibly Sigma.
I find the zoom ring on the Tamron VERY stiff and jerky in operation I took it back to Jessops who tryed a few others in stock all the same in one case it actually jammed at 300 mm.
Still time permitting will persevere and hopefully soon get some pics on critique
will try google and see what i can get

Hi Ian,

I know a very good tutor who runs superb photography beginners courses from the village of Smeeton Westerby, near Market Harborough. I guarantee if you attend one of his courses you'll learn more in one day than you would in a couple of years left to your own devices.

Take a look at his website here for further details. Once you've been on one of his courses he maybe able to direct you towards someone who is looking for a willing assistant.
