I look at it this way, if you put an "Open" sign on a shop door, you cant say to people "You cant come in until later"........

What I am pointing out here is, if you put a theme up on a Thursday afternoon, evening..etc....people will see that as a green light to start because the old cogs start turning, ideas are being put into reality and for some, they may only have that "window" on a Thursday evening after the theme is announced to get it done.

I too understand rules is rules, but if you were to be strict on the Friday entry date, then you have to either post the Theme up just before Midnight on Thursday or first thing on Friday, which would just make the comp regimental and take the fun out of running it.

The appeal of this competition is down to its fun and flexible aspect, if you start putting the thumb screws down then people will become frustrated and not bother.

I'm gonna stick my neck on the line and say if we move to a ruling where-by folks can enter as soon as the Theme is set, I reckon we'll get more folks joining in.

This would work as the latest that a new topic can be published, if it is earlier then all the good, we can start from when the topic is posted IF earlier than the Thursday midnight deadline.

The poll isn't about changing the other rules, especially the deadline for posting a new topic, just to allow anyone who has an instant idea and opportunity to make an entry at any time after the new theme is announced. I'll still do mine over the weekend, because that will still be allowed

Understood just making the point that people should be mindful that the winner of the comp has until then to set the topic for the week and the tweak to the rules does not impact that

By the way this is a great competition the people are helpful, great banta and the judging is completely fair, I do a work competition where I have seen shots win that don't even fit the theme, favoratism towards colleagues and terrible shots winning because the idea was good. So long may this comp live

In many of the middle-eastern countries, for example, Friday and Saturday is the weekend; people work Sunday to Thursday; so the definition of a weekend being on a Saturday and a Sunday is a 'Western' notion. If the 'weekend' competition's aim is to be all-inclusive as it purports to be, then the rules should then be changed to include entries from 00:00 on Friday morning until 23:59 on a Sunday night.

Denise

I feel really guilty for raising it for clarification now. I know it was a genuine mistake by Kerbside but I agree with his reasoning and do not see why entries should not start as soon as the theme is announced and agree with H that this is the only rule change suggested. Still up to the winner`s time / availability to set the theme up to the deadline within existing rules.

Don`t understand your point Denise. The current comp rules allow shots already through Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The query was around an entry put in after the theme was announced but before Friday. I for one have voted to allow entries any time from the theme being set and am happy with that - just thought it should be clarified as it was the 2nd week running that we had an early entry just through error and it needed clarifying.

I could see Denise's point, possibly, if she even bothered entering the comp in the first place.

My take on it for what its worth is, when I won the comp and just in case I won the comp! I asked for an idea of a theme, DD gave me a couple of ideas and i duly chose one, twisted. Now in normal circumstances It would have been alot longer for me to come up with a good topic.
I felt it was a good idea to give everyone fair warning and time to choose what their idea would be. As we all know we may have a idea but when it doesn't work we sometimes have to change tack in order to get an entry in. Therefore
My opinion is : when you have won the comp, if you know what your theme is! post it, if you don't you have till 12 Thursday to decide. Remember when its a draw you may have a lengthy debate as to which theme to set.
Allowing to take the picture straight away is neither here nor there for me because I can change my mind at the last minute plus I only have from PM sat till Sunday to take mine. If i thought it was unfair to take the picture strait away I would only opt for sat and sun photos in my position. So to conclude take the pictures as soon as the theme is posted and enjoy the fact you have more time to perfect it REMEMBER ITS FUN.

Only really just caught up on this but I must say that I’m in the camp for whatever the majority want to go with (nothing like sitting on the fence, eh). I know if we do change the rules I will not be able to take advantage of it but I am in the lucky position where I do not have to work Sat or Sun.

If we do change the rules then the theme setter has the option to dictate when we can start entering by not posting the theme until late Thursday. I guess the other thing is that we are not getting a prize for winning, in fact the exact opposite, having to set the poll the next week

I have voted and I went with change to hopefully give the weekend workers a little more time.

Nice . . . . who says I haven't? As to an earlier mention of me being a 'new' member, well, if participating on this forum for the past three or fours years makes a 'new membe' then that's what I am.
