Its OCTOBER why the xmas advert?

Come on Future - do we really have to have Christmas forced upon us so early - I know that some shops are starting to sell xmas stock - I try to avoid them. But the flashing "Save up to 40% on the [so called] perfect gift" is a bit obnoxious!

Yep, I agree. Lets have Xmas in December like we used to! A few of my local pubs had Xmas trees up as early as 25th September this year!!! Its getting ridiculous.
Remember... the calendar is for life... not just for Xmas!

On one hand I agree, Christmas is for December, but on the other hand some people like to be organised for Christmas and buy their presents early (My Mum probably bought my present in this years Jan sales). Nothing worse than sitting in traffic jams trying to get into shopping centre car parks, battling with loads of people wandering aimlessly around the shops not knowing what to buy or hoping that what you ordered online will turn up or not.
I really don't see the harm in it, I have no idea what the ad is you've seen that you find so obnoxious, but imagine for one minute that you would actually like one of those for Christmas. Previously when you have been asked what you want for Christmas by your wife/ husband/partner/kids you say 'I don't know, surprise me' and what turns up is not really what you wanted - maybe now you can start leaving hints and it might just turn out to be the perfect gift. Just my opinion.

I don't think the point here is about people buyingXmas pressies early, it's about the blatant advertising and sale of Xmas related goods, such as food like Xmas cakes which expire in November, Xmas decorations, and getting a Xmas feel into the store far too early.
I've always felt that the Xmas season really should start after bonfire night which gives stores 7 - 8 weeks of Xmas promotion which is ample to buy crackers, chocolates, trees, seasonal food etc All the other things are on sale all year round anyway, so there's no real issue about buying them for Xmas weeks early.
The Xmas season should mean something, it is after all a religious festival not a promotion fest for merchants to make a killing on. The point here is retail outlets should not start the season too early.

If it is such a "religious" festival - why give it the pagan abbreviation of Xmas !?!?!? Christmas is Christmas - is it not ? - even for we heathens north of the border.

And what/ when is "bonfire" night ? - Is that another English "pagen" festival.!?!?

Give me a good old "Hogmanay" celebration any day.

But back on topic : If adverts annoy you so much - whether Xmas ones( sorry Christmas) or the ones that proliferate this site and many others - why not do as I do and IGNORE them - that way your blood pressure won't rise unduly.

I'm not bothered if its religious or not - arguably its just a reason to spend money and eat a lot - no wonder adverts are getting earlier - it is the whole issue of forcing it down your throat - its this forceful pushing it / forcing it upon us earlier and earlier each year that annoys me. This is the same for other similar holidays! I have no issue with people being organised - my sister usually gets her presents in the Jan sales ready for the next, shall we call it festive season. But those who are organised will always be, conversely those who are not and end up doing it in a rush will also be the same year in year out. The advert is hard to miss as its flashing away on the top and right of my monitor. Other adverts which do not move so much are easier to ignore.

Oh yeah thanks for assuming that I am Christian and having a religious standpoint - far from it (I was christened but it was not my choice) - but this brings me onto another point - in a multi-cultural society in which we have other major recognised religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism) within these fair shores. Those who are not Christian have it forced upon them every year. Yes we are technically a Christian nation - but other religious communities are growing and we do live in a multi-cultural, multi-religious society.

Its the Likes of advertising that has made Christmas far to commercialized, most of the kids today dont really know what its all about, its just a time to get new toys in there eyes.
Yes we are a multi cultural society and I have been brought up to never knock another mans religion but when in Rome!

When I was in the hospitality industry we use to get the xmas menus out by August and would take the first party bookings in September if you had not booked by Beginning of November it was too late
