Beauty And The Beast......

Did anyone see the C4 documentary where a beauty obsessed individual meets and spends time with someone with a facial or bodily disfigurement? I am so moved and so brought back down to earth. The beauty, fashion and photography business were shown to be so shallow and so irrresponsible. Im filling up with emotion whilst typing this. People are so quick to pass judgement. Me very much included..............

No, didn't watch it. I once saw a woman standing outside the Crown court who's nose had been cut off and it made me feel very uneasy. It's part of human nature to be taken aback by someone who looks or sounds different. This is why when you move to a different part of the country or another country your accent changes to sound like the local people. It's a defence mechanism so you don't standout as someone different, as you may get picked on.

I agree about the beauty business and the way it implies that the models are perfect, by air brushing out any imperfections. To find the real person you need to look beneath the skin.

It was a very moving story, and one guy, who had a facial disfigurement, had a photo session for a huge billboard poster, copying a famous beckham male underweat shot....He was't scared of comments and feedback was very good.

Of course Beauty and Fashion photography is shallow..its aspirational and what product from cars to kagooles hasnt been dressed up in advertisments..Thats why all shop manequins are never more than a 10 for ladies or a 32 waist in mens terms..we see what we like and think oooh that looks good so we try it and buy it..sadly if we dont have the manequin size we wont look so good but we can dream.

Can't comment on the programme I didnt see it..not sure how much sensationalised TV appeals to me..

I know I am.. However in defence I will say that UGLY does have some people who are mainstream models but who are not quite. Ford, Models1, Storm or Select calibre, in truth each agency has its own criteria and some faces fit one but not the other..Ugly represents allsorts of people from the slightly eccentric to the downright freakish..however they all get work so that just demonstrates the diversity of the modelling world..

It also however raises a point about confidence..there are some less than attractive people, lets say unusual people at UGLY who are quite happy in their skins which kind of knocks the theory about blaming fashion or Beauty editiorials for peoples insecurities..people are insecure for allsorts of reasons..mainly peer pressure and poor guidance at home I suspect..

Whilst fashion is flippant and aspirational every man and his dog knows that all pictures are re touched and features are frequently corrected or improved upon. you would have tio be dead to not know the pictures are retouched and that it isnt real..

For what its worth the only difference between me and SHREK is that I ain't Green and I'm not married to somone called Fiona...am I insecure about how I look..No, do models make me feel less worthy No, not for a moment..I wouldn't be a model for all the tea in china..Beauty really is a curse, I have known many very beautiful people, even dated one or two and believe me their beauty was for them a nightmare..The negative reactions from people based on how they looked was very apparant..Staggering really.
