Going there Saturday, Oh God, not my thing but it was cheap, its warmer than England and well it's a break! Any recommendations????? Where to avoid (apart from Sticky....), where is more 'Spanish'? Where to get decent tapas. Any beaches away from the throng? Any good typicallly Spanish restaurants or Bars? I hate tatty Spain, I love traditional Spain..I'm gonna hate it aren't I?.......

Well I for one wish you a very happy Holiday Chris, Tatty Spain or otherwsie I am sure you can make a good time of it and at least be away from the winter gloom and cold..Added to which the world is in such a state a break anywhere would be welcome...Just dont start a uprising, honestly I don't think I could take another country in termoil..

We stayed in resorts outside of Benidorm last year which are worth a visit if you hire a car. Altea, lovely Spanish village, plenty of culture and not as loud and busy as Benidorm. You could also take a drive to Calpe and Javea which are smaller resorts but quite nice. I didn't lke Benidorm much because it was too busy but that was middle of July and August, this time of the year it has a larger pensioner crowd. The Spanish government pay for their OAPs to have time in the sun during winter.

I'd personally take the camera because you will kick yourself if you see something you wish you had photographed. Besides don't you want holiday snapshots at least?

Alicante is worth a day trip so are the waterfalls of L' Algar.

Thanks Karen, lots of advice there. We will probably hire a car and take in some of the sights you suggested. I was going to take a normal digi camera just for snapshots, but I worry about security and stuff taking my 'big camera'. I have found there is somewhere called "Tapas Alley" which has a few nice traditional tapas bars, frequented by the locals and not so much by the tourists. I speak a little Spanish and enjoy practicing. I'm excited, but dubious....
