The best way to purchase from Jessops (if you have to get it from Jessops that is), is to order online for store collection and contact the store before you collect it. You only pay when you collect it too.

I will never spend another penny with Jessops after they completely over exposed a roll of film I took into them and ruined ALL my photo's which I'd be very careful with the exposure about, bracketing hugely so at least 1 shot would be good.

They had the cheek to charge me but I refused to pay when I looked at them in the shop. The manager wasn't in so they just refunded the cost of the film.

I went back in the following day and saw the manager who was next to ****ing useless and wouldn't do any more and his apology lacked any sincerity. So I wrote to their head office and when I didn't hear they got a stronger which eventually prompted a letter of apology with sorry but mistakes do sometimes happen.

Bunch of incompetent muppets, the only reason I go in now is to try camera's and wind the staff up before I go else where. They really are a chain I'd like to see disappear.

Do I take it that you don't like Jessops then?

Their original store was at Hinkley. Living in Northampton in the '70's, it was a quick nip up the A5 to buy film and paper at what was at that time deemed to be 'wholesale' prices, You went clutching a ripped out advert from the Amateur Photographer, queued up at a counter, there was always a queue, ordered and paid for your goods and waited at another counter to collect them; a bit like Argos today.

If I remember there wasn't much advice available, you had already made up your mind what you wanted by visiting the local camera shop.

Thet then spread all over the country, and it was all downhill from there!

Its so common to see businesses go this route when they get too big, they start out well enough the get bought out and expand and somehow the gilding fades and eventually it all goes belly up..Its such a shame that things always seem to go wildly wrong once the personal touch is lost..Employees get fed up with constant management edicts and targets and no doubt are fairly poorly paid so you can see why the guts go out of things..Apathey in buisiness in todays market is a sure fire route to disaster and one wonders if the staff have any real incentive to actually bother..

Strangley Jessops did manage to get the battery grip in after two false starts and I collected it today..they even fitted it for me which was kind. However it has to be said that there was not much else going on and that you could almost smell the air of a business struggling..they didnt have a big variety of stock on view and had a lot of their own products and not much else on offer. You have got to have stock to capture the punters interest and get them drooling over their next purchase, its the oldest trick in the book..

Maybe a major corporate shakeup is needed but I strongly suspect that this double dip recession will sort the wheat from the chaff and they maybe consigned to history or from the high st at least just retaining internet sales..

So not a total disaster but a bit of a shuffle getting there..

Oppps, I appear to be one of the few people to have had a positive experience at Jessops. I have bought most of my equipment from them and found the staff to be really helpful. I excepted that it was slightly more expensive as a trade off by being able to return to the shop should I have a problem.

All the equipment I bought was in stock so no issues there.

However I may soon join your ranks as last week I treated myself to a Sigma 10 - 20mm and a Nikon SB-R1 CLOSE-UP Remote Kit R1 which were not in stock and would have to be ordered in specially.

So, here is hoping that my Jessops ship comes in :-)

OK, well I need to review my opinion of Jessops slightly!

The Joystick head turned up at the Exeter store a few days late admittedly, so I popped into the shop to pick up. It was significantly cheaper than anywhere else I'd seen it, and they honoured their original price despite it having gone up £20 since I ordered it. Bonus!

I've been looking at tripods too, with my eye on either a manfrotto 190xprob (£119.95) or a 055xprob (£98?), of which they had both in stock. I decided on the 190xprob (I saw no benefits at all in the 055xprob - including stability!!) but took a walk to the bank to think about it, and check out prices online, and at the other shops in town. The Jessops price was about £20-25 higher than online prices, but comparable to the other shops in town. On returning, I asked the manager if he would consider reducing the price by £20, which he agreed to, based on a price match!

What a cheerful, pleasant, knowledgable chap too!

You think they are bad, try having a lens repaired under their warranty at Camerabox mines coming up to 6 months all told now. They should be called %^?!|"*&.

Has anyone ever tried Jessops online printing service. This is absolutely first class and I have never had anything but excellent products back from them including, canvas prints, photos and photobooks. Might be a bit of a sting in the tail here though as they use a company called Mycewee which has won awards for the quality of their printing.
