Glad you got it back repaired. Now get out there and taken some pictures.

They cleaned the sensor and replaced the CCD? That's the same thing, as an image sensor is either a CCD or CMOS. And remember the point about the Sale of Goods Act, as it can cover you for upto 6 years, but after six months you have to prove the fault was there when you brought it.

Cleaning does not invlove actually cleaning the sensor itself! So when the sensor is relaced it's essential to clean the low pass & anti aliasing filters which are positioned in front of the sensor and are the elements which are actually cleaned. If the sensor was actually exposed a digital camera would be virtually unuseable as the static build up when it's switched on would attact all the dust in the camera body very quickly.
