Open in Raw

I want to open a jpg in raw how do I do that and can I do that or is it not possible? I am using Ps Cs4

Importing it into your raw editor will (often) allow you to edit it but you won't have all of the options available for a raw file. You can do it in Lightroom, other programs may not be capable of importing a jpeg.

Thanks ap4: but how do you import it ? I click on it in bridge but it doesnt open it in raw it just goes to ps cs4, sorry I am being a bit thick here, im sure when you explaine I will go DOHHHH

The easy and possibly quickest way you can do it is to open the jpeg in Bridge, go to File and then Open in Camera Raw.

You can also set Photoshop to open ALL files into ACR. It's in the "file handling" section of the preferences.

For Elements users..... you cannot do the 'file handling' setting as described by Chris P above.....

but you can still open "almost" any file type (certainly PSD, JPG, TIF - I cannot guarantee others) in ACR and have a degree of control, though not as powerful as when using ACR on a Raw file. You just go to "Open As", select the format - choose "Camera Raw" (not 'Photoshop Raw') and then choose the file.
