hello gents and ladies i am new here and am taking a bigger interest in all things photography. I have had a Canon EOS 350d for some years but never really took it out of auto mode. Until recently when i was detached to the Falkland Islands. that ignited my interest. so i hope to upgrade and get much more into it now. so don't be too hard on me if i ask what appears to be a silly question lol.

Hello Hagz Hello Rienza, welcome to the forum, its a friendly board and there are it seems a few newcomers who are all in the same boat not being certain whats what or how to do etc etc..

There is no such thing as a silly question , deciphering the answer maybe another matter if its technical..

Welcome both to the forums. Do not be afraid to ask a question because you think others might find it silly. There is a Beginners Forum for asking the basics. There are lots of videos on the site (you may need to disable any ad blockers in your web browser to view them) that can be very helpful.

If you cannot find something written or in a video, just ask.
