Back again, did you mean Organiser when you said analyser? It's just that I've PSE9 (recent purchase) and had never come across an analyser- meanwhile as I have said in a number of threads on this and other sites I avoid the Organiser like the plague!

I was just looking at it a while ago. Bear in mind that was before 8 AM local time on a Sunday morning It is accessed through the organiser and it seems to be a quick way to to add smart tags to photos. I ran it on one and was quick but as far as being useful, not so sure.

I still maintain my original point, zoom in, if it looks sharp, it is in focus.

Hi All, I have spent all afternoon retaking and practicing my focus skills, as I am a complete newbie to an SLR camera this is quite a challenge, can you please look at my 'Tulip' photo that I have uploaded and tell me if it is out of focus in your opinion, as when I took it, I heard the 'beep' and saw the green circle on my Canon camera, so I know it was in focus according to the camera, BUT good all elements still says all my photos are are blurred.

Thanks in advance

it's actually quite difficult to focus on a macro shot, especially when using such a slow shutter speed. With a real low shutter speed you can never be quite sure whether something is out of focus or blurred due to movement (either camera, shutter, or table)

Try photographing something in really bright light so you have a fast shutter speed, maybe turn the flash on & your focusing will be obvious.

With that tulip shot, it's quite dark & you will never get the whole thing in focus at f5.6, so it's hard to tell what you thought was in focus, it looks like the nearer petals are whereas the stamens might not be.
But this isn't the best test of your focusing skills.

Try lying a newspaper down, taking a shot at an angle & seeing if the words you focused on are the words that are in focus, if that makes sense, do it in bright light so you use fast shutter speed.

Try switching to manual focus and use 'live view' function.Press the menu button, scroll to the fifth menu list(the middle yellow spanner with the two dots),'live view' is second last in the list.Set to enable.Press the set button to activate 'live view' and press the magnification button(rear top right hand corner of the camera) with the blue symbol underneath. This will give you 5x magnification, press again and it will give you 10x magnification. Now manual focus on the area you want sharp and take your shot.Check your results.

Switch Off image stabilisation when using a tripod
Lock mirror up and use a remote
Forget the anyliser, zoom in on the camera display if it looks OK accept it

Thank again to all of you, I have now reached the conclusion that I am not using the organiser to auto analyse my photos.
As I can clearly see following all the good advice, that on the most of them they are quite clearly in focus!

Thanks again,

Louise
