A200 strange long exposure sound

I have been happily using this for 2 years and took it on holiday where I took a number of long exposures - all silent! I came and charged the battery and performed a clean using a hand blower to ensure any dust was removed. This took about 30 seconds maximum.

Since then I get a quiet rumbling sound on long exposure photos. Each photo still appears to be taken perfectly fine. Anybody know why this may suddenly be doing this after several successful tries before?

It's a few years since I had the 200, but it always grumbled on long exposures with no ill effects to the camera or image.

It could be the sensor moving around if SSI (steady shot inside) is switched on, try it with it on and off to see if it makes a difference.

Is it possible that it's always made that noise and you've just not noticed?

I ask because my Olympus used to make a noise that sounded like a sort of high pitched rumble on long exposures. It's the electric mechanism holding the shutter open. I imagine it's the same thing on the Sony.

As an aside, the SSWF on the Oly E-510 also makes a lovely vibration when you turn the camera off that really worries people when they don't know what it is. You can actually feel it shake the camera body!

Thanks all. Forgot to subscribe to this thread so forgot to check for responses!!! It certainly seems to have improved dramatically so maybe your right, maybe as I really started to get into the workings of the functions of the camera that I noticed it more. Its definitely got quieter though!
