Some comments appreciated

Hello - I'm new to the business of posting on a forum.

I've been living in Shanghai, China for the last two and a half years, taking pictures wherever I can. I've just uploaded my 2010 favourites into a folder on Photo Radar and wondered if anyone would be able to comment on a few I will post a couple of my current favourites here.

Thanks in advance!

I really like some of the photos Martin, the colours are great and the details are well defined!

I like the first one too. It would have been nice to see the woman with a really large cleaver in her hand, to link her to the fish with their heads cut off! I see the cleaver lurking on the board in the background. Nice work though!

Agree the first one is a good shot, but would have been a great shot if the woman was working with the fish. As it stands she looks very formal and slightly uncomfortable.

A close up of that fish table could of made an entry into the food competition!

Is it just me or is teh woman in the fisrt shot blurred. I agree with the comments about her not being at her chopping board with her vleaver.

Thanks for the feedback guys! The image of the women with the fish heads was one of the rare times that a Chinese person actually stopped and posed for me in this way. I have lived in Shanghai for over two years now and the local people here are usually quite shy having their photo taken. This shot was set up as best I could with my limited chinese and taken very quickly - I wish I could have had her move around and got some more shots!

I'm still interested if anyone has any more comments about the last image. I almost deleted it, but then kept coming back to look at it more. I really like all the layers with different things going on. In the background there's the man taking a picture, then the van moving next to the taxi with the van logo merging with the taxi, whilst the man in the pink shirt is a hawker trying to sell me a dvd or fake bag. I have a feeling I really like it because it's personal to my experience of living in China. However, does anyone else see anything of actual photographic merit to is - or maybe has some ideas of how it could be processed in photoshop differently. It is full frame and not cropped.

Thanks again!!
Martin

I think the last image is quite good and does have some, maybe not a lot, but some photographic merit. I.E, the eye contact between you and the man in the image, also the colours in the image.

Regards

Tom :]
