Unhappy Which wide angle to choose ?

To all the clever people out there. I am in the market for a wide angle lens and from what I have seen/read there is a choice of two for me:

Sigma 10 - 20 or the Nikon 10 - 24

I can see there is a small difference in aperture size but the main difference seems to the the price £400ish for the Sigma to £600ish for the Nikon.

Any advice on which one to pick ?

I have a Nikon D300s

If you have a quick look through this section, there have been a couple of debates on this very topic recently.

I have the Sigma version and I love it. It spends more time on my camera than any other lens. I chose that version after a lot of searching on the net and then seeing a test in a magazine comparing all of the super wide angles and the Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 came out on top, even beating the f3.5 but that was mainly because they did not see any need for a slightly faster lens as the camera would, in low light, invariably be tripod mounted anyway.

Sounds like a plan.

Sigma everytime!

Like a lot of people here, I used the Sigma for about three years... I shoot with a Canon and it hardly ever came off the camera... and I have a bag of L-series lenses too! When I eventually switched to full-frame the Sigma was no longer useable so I sold it on e-Bay... for £4 more than I paid for it brand new!!!
I can testify to it's durability and the lens is in great demand and holds it's second-hand value well.
I LOVED it, you cant go wrong!

I have the Nikon 12-24mm F4 and it's a cracking lens, but at twice the price of the Sigma. All people who have the Sigma 10-20mm swear by it, so it makes a ideal choice.

The Nikon 10-24 has slightly less distortion at the corners and doesn't vignette as much as the Sigma does but it's really not worth the extra money.
The Sigma is the one to go for.

+1 on the Sigma 10-20mm - given me some not-too-shabby shots!
