Hi Tom

Nice pic.

Just had a quick look and personally I would:

crop down to just above the highest sail, crop up and lose approx. half of the water and crop in from the left up to the last small sailing boat. Then I'd clone out the small boat far right.

Then I'd sit back and look at what I'd got and go from there.

By the way - I think you'd get more responses if you uploaded the pic here.

Hope this helps - look forwad to seeing any mods you make.

Drew

I agree with Drew about the cropping but otherwise I really like it and if you crop in closer you will see more of those people on the boats too. I am jealous of your travelling around btw :-)

Thanks guys for commenting, I'll have a go at the cropping and upload the image later. By the way, how do I upload the image straight onto the forum with having to post a URL all the time ? :]

Hi Tom,

I have to agree with Drew and Karen about the cropping and cloning but it is a great subject.

HERE is a link to how to post images.

Here on the Isle of Wight there is plenty of opportunity to take images like this. If I had this image sitting in front of me for processing I would crop out the nearest sailing boat (far right) entirely, as it draws my eye away from the centre and left hand side entirely. After that I would try and lift the sky by dodging and burning so that it became more moody, and work on the highlights of the buildings just to make the whole scene pop. Also adding a tad more contrast overall would enhance the feel to the piece. Skies are really important to the overal structure of an image and I have plenty of images on my Flickr site where I have spent several hours working on the skies. Please feel free to take a look at them and see what I mean.

Even in this shot below you can see that the wekest of skies can be teased out.

Thanks Keith, Some of your photos are very good. I see what you mean with the sky but i have not had loads of experience when it comes to treating skys in photoshop, I'll have a go though!

And thanks Karen :]
