Canon EOS 1000d or Nikon D3000

Hi guys,
Im in the market for a enrty-level DSLR and I've pulled out these monsters, the canon and the nikon. Unfortunately I only have a budget for something under £400 seeing as i am new and still a teen. I am pulling towards the Canon because its quite and not as fiddly as the Nikon, but being a child I wouldn't know, so i need professional help!

You can get a 1000D with 18-55mm kit lens for under £350, which would leave you enough for a camera bag and memory card. They're good cameras with plenty of features and good quality results. The lens is what you will out grow more quickly and you might want to begin saving for a replacement or additional lens as soon as you can - a 50mm f/1.8 will set you back £85 from Amazon, Jessops or John Lewis.

Alternatively, you could go straight for the 50mm f/1.8 instead of a kit lens and get the 1000D for £299 (Jessops) plus £85 for the lens, and enough left over for a memory card.

In your budget limit you should go with this .Nikon D3000 is Nikon beginner / entry level camera. It replaces Nikon D60.First time DSLR users will enjoy the Guide Mode by using this camera. It literally walked us through different shoot scenarios via the fixed 3" LCD screen. A basic fix is the Vibration Reduction feature located on the lens. This should be activated, especially indoors. Nikon D3000 has a thumb dial, which you will use most of the time to change shutter speed and aperture. There are mode dial on the top of the camera.

Both the model you have mentioned now has their newer versions. Both the models almost performs same, the only drawback of Nikon D3000 is it doesn't have inbuilt auto-focus motor so you always have to buy AF-S lenses so the lenses choice are limited. If you want to have a look at the newer versions than can look at the detailed comparison Canon 1100D vs Nikon D3100
