Canon 75-300mm f4.0-5.6 III

Hi guys,

Im looking to buy a Canon 75-300mm f4.0-5.6 III lens. I have a Canon EOS 1000D and a small collection of other lenses. Firstly, is this a good lens to buy? Are there any other alternatives for around the same Price? And will this lens work with my EOS 1000D as it is not a full frame camera??

I have a very small amount of money to spend so any alternative lens would have to be priced no more than £200!

Reagrds

Tom

check out www.camerapricebuster.co.uk for prices & alternatives, Sigma are usually a little bit cheaper, at this end of the price scale I think all the lenses are pretty similar quality-wise.

My daughter uses a Canon 70-300 on her 1000D

This lens came with my camera (also a 1000d) and its pretty good. Check out some of the second hand dealers as well as there are plenty of them available second hand (Park Cameras, Ace Cameras, Mifsuds, Ffordes, CamTech) if you're on a budget. I bought a second hand macro which is great (not cheap tho!)

I've got one of these, plus Canon hood, that I've been meaning to put on Ebay for ages. You'll probably see tons of reviews saying how bad they are, mostly compared to other lenses costing 5 or 6 times as much, but for what they cost they're pretty good and mine helped me learn a lot as I worked around it's limitations (narrow max apertures and fairly slow focusing, leading to occasional hunting in low light). Despite it's limitations it still ranks as my most used lens and can produce some nice images. There's a handful at different focal lengths on my blog if you want a quick look. And yes, it will work perfectly fine with a 1000D.
