Hi Arnie,
Nicely toned in an antique way. The figure (which my eye is drawn towards by following the path) is too central in the frame. Have you tried cropping the top of the photograph off (just above the trees) and the left side (removing the telegraph pole).
For me it balances the pictures main elements better and removes any distractions.

Phil

Yes, the updated version has done well to lose the telegraph pole and position the figure a little above the middle. I don't think the foreground's that interesting but has to be kept to maintain the balance. Tempted to say that a viewpoint from the grass on the left (being careful not to fall in) would have opened up that railing nicely. That building behind the trees on the left if mysterious and intriguing too.

Well done on going out on a grey day to take a photo. All you need is a few creases going across the photo and everyone would think it's a old photo taken years ago that you scanned in.

Also prefer the cropped version; I would have cropped about 4cms off the foreground, but then I am partial to square crops! Also, perhaps increase the contrast a bit to make the image even more dramatic. But I like the shot overall.

Regards
Denise

That was sound advice from Phil and the cropped version is a very pleasing photograph. I think you were brave to go out in the first place - venturing onto the grass verge might have been a step too far

Yes, I prefer the trimmed version. It's a great shot. Had the man, in the photograph, just thrown his bike into the canal?
