I've voted. What happened to Slinky for Jinky? It wasn't in the list of those to vote for.

Sorry, still not up to entering myself so I content myself with learning form the critique given once polling closed!

You had two last week just like me, to get a vote is good going on this competition so you are doing very well.

I will do my best to enter this week, I do enjoy the challenge even if I don't get any votes although I did manage to win it a couple of months back despite getting no votes up until then

My pics are good luck rather than skill. I admire the many talented people on here and feel humbled by their amazing photos.

Hi all! Best news of the weekend is that Jinky is back in action! Hope you are feeling much better!

To those of you new to the comp:- I am quite new to it too but stick at it - I have learned so much from the experienced people on here through critique of my entries. It is definitely the best way to give yourself a target every week and to expand your talents doing it. I was set the challenge of getting a vote within the first 6 months and was prepared for that wait based on the quality of the entries I had seen. There are good photos every week that don't get any votes!

My advice would be - try to make time to do it every weekend (half assed efforts rarely cut it!) Come up with a loose concept (or several) in your head. Do test shots to see if they work. Then spend the time getting it right. It isn't easy or quick if you are new to it like me but boy does it give you a buzz if you get it right! Finally if you can capture your idea in the way you visualised it, and you like it - then for me it is a success! I've heard some of the consistently good guys on here say "votes or no votes, i liked this!"

In short keep going! The critique on the weeks where I get no votes are more valuable even than the weeks when I do and are always received as a positive. I have found this forum excellent for a learner and appreciate the input of all the "Old Hands" which have helped me in 2010.

Happy Christmas to all and a peaceful, prosperous and photogenic new year to everyone on the forum and particularly the regulars for their advice this year!

I love my entry this weekend, and just cos others don't, doesn't mean my pic is rubblish. I have 2 votes, so thats telling me i'm improving. This is my 3rd time of entering.I deleted my 1st weekends entry 3 weeks ago cos it was so bad. My 2nd attempt last weekend did get 2 votes, and this 3rd one has 2 as well so far, so I must be doing something right.

That was mine kentlass. I switched my entry on Monday morning - looking at the voting possibly not the right decision!

Thanks Muckyboy.
Yeah feeling a bit better but still like the stuffing has been knocked out of me. Not eating much, which won`t do me any harm, but not sure I`ll be doing any serious photography for a while as I am just not able to get out / carry anything very heavy at the moment without feeling it a lot.
Liked the slinky ogga- was going to do one myself but could not find it as it happens ;-) Might have bee better than my own duff attempt too in hindsight.

Hey Paul glad your getting back into the swing again, but remember to do a little at a time you dont want any setbacks. Oh and yes! quote serious photography when was that then ?

Take care and leave those 800mm zoom lenses in your bag
