I'm looking to set up a small feeding station in our garden for pics like this. We have done it down at our caravan in West Wales during the summer but all that I could snap were Blue Tits and Sparrows.

Agreed, some really excellent photographs in there.

Steve, I made a nest box this year. Nothing moved in. Currently, I have 3 fat balls hanging (ooh err missus lol), a bird feeder and a tray with bird seeds in.... I haven't seen one winged critter in my garden for weeks

I know the feeling well. We have been chucking bread down in the snow in the garden over the last couple of weeks and I can sit in the bathroom and shoot from there. All the bread has gone and, like amk, I have not seen a bloody thing when I have been there waiting.

I have come to the conclusion that before I will be able to shoot any birds in my garden, I'll need to shoot my neighbours cats.... just not with a camera though lol

I suggest you two get up a bit earlier. Birds feed soon after sunrise (breakfast) and just before sunset (supper). Of course it could be that they are just not attracted by your titbits due to the next door neighbour throwing down a 5* lunch.

I find that I have a variety of birds visiting my feeders ,Chaffinch,Goldfinch,Siskin,Bluetit,Great Tits Blackbirds ,Dunnocks and Robins.
I put up seed feeders with a mixed seed also a feeder with shelled sunflowers seeds and Nyger seed for the Golfinchs and Siskins along with a feeder with peanuts ,I have about 15-20 Goldfinchs visiting daily along with about 10 Siskins numerous Tits and then your normal run of the mill Sparrows Blackbirds Starlings .
Blackbirds and starlings along with the Dunnocks are ground feeders so I put down a garden seed tray with seed for them with apple as well as the Blackbirds are paretial to apple .
[I]t take times to set a feeding area up and if you keep it set up all the time they will eventually get used to it and keep coming back just now I have a regulare influx of birds during daylight hours .
Hope this help some of you out in setting up feeding area for pics
