What do you think of SLT cameras?

Our test of the Sony Alpha 55 is online here: http://www.photoradar.com/reviews/pr...5?t=1292514350

What do you think of the concept of having a fixed translucent mirror to allow speedy phase detection AF in live view mode?

Sony has decided to use an EVF to avoid the problem of having a dim optical viewfinder. Would that put you off going for the system?

Let's hear your thoughts.

I know absolutely nothing about them. Do you want to send me one to try it out?

You need to read the review and speak to Father Christmas.

Any camera that uses an EVF would put me off - is the articulated screen any good in sunlight?? Possibly a good buy if you're into video/shooting at odd angles/gimmicks.

I haven't been that good this year. Think I'll stick with my Nikons.

Apparently I have been a good person since my husband bought me the A55. I love it! It's fast and light and there are far less blurry photos. It's great. I used it during my trip to France in November and I'm pleased with the results.

Lucky you! What do you think of the viewfinder? Do you shoot much usimg live view (ie compose images on the LCD screeen) and if so what do you think of it?

Having fairly recently got a Canon G11, I'm definitely sold on articulated screens - don't mind using the LCD but, ironically, very rarely use Live View on my 7D, preferring viewfinder and anglefinder.

One thing I've really missed since my days with the Fuji S602z is the EVF - I'm sure I'd prefer that if the quality was good

But I don't think I'll be moving over to Sony any time soon - we're too committed to Canon (sadly - I'd have preferred to have gone the Nikon route)

Can't say I'm very interested. I like my optical viewfinder, and am quite opposed to anything in the light path, including so-called protective filters. To take away a significant proportion of the inbound light seems a waste of the development of more sensitive sensors.

That's not to say I think it's no good, just that it's not for me.

I use Live View for many of my photographs, but I'm not sure I'd put up with so much light lost. Was this the reason that pellicle mirrors were disconinued in the past?
I suppose it depends on what sort of photography you do. If you don't take many pictures in low light, then it's probably OK.
