Congrats to Ogga on a fine win.

My above and belows tomorrow.

As for a 2010 best of vote, I really have no preference as to how this might be undertaken.

Thanks all for the votes. I will come up with a suitable theme and post before tomorrow evening.

My idea for the "best of" vote is to keep it simple. How about this - anyone is eligible, just pick your best shot taken in 2010 (need not have been in the comps) and post it. Rather than mess with the poll everyone can vote for first, second, and third by adding a post to the entries thread. Some poor sucker will need to tally the votes but there are plenty of those here so I'm sure that won't be a problem.

Well done on a good win Oggalily and thanks to those that voted for my effort this week, my comments/opinion:-

Close call between Oggalily's image and Cutters tormented soul for me, I got a real sense of sound out of both images but it was the look of thrill/terror on the boys face that added a sense of real fun to the image that won me over the grain that Oggalily mentioned for me really added to the atmosphere excellent job.

Cutter once again a supreb image really nice Photoshop work as well, reminded me of the cover of Pink Floyds the wall for some reason, it felt like the faces were screaming at me so bang on topic as well in all I could not fault this at all.

Highland sorry but it didn't work for me, I felt the phone blended into the black background to much and wondered if it may have worked better on a white background, also I think I would of got more sense of sound if it was ringing i.e showing this on the display and maybe blur the edges in PS to look like they are vibrating on the plus side I loved the composition and a very competent well lit shot that caught plenty of detail.

DigiDiva a nice entry but a bit orangy for me I would have preferred to see a silver whistle, also may have been better to show more of the face with the cheek puffed out to give a better sense of sound, another idea which may or may not of worked is to blow smoke through the whistle (I am not condoning smoking BTW) to show the movement of the air but in all a very nice shot and a great idea.

That would work quite well Chris, as each entrant can edit in and update the number of votes / points received below their entry piccy if they wish too.

Are you suggesting 3 point for 1st, 2 points for 2nd etc., or 1 vote counted whether 1st 2nd or 3rd choice ?

Closing date for entries end of December, and Closed for voting ? How many days to vote in?

Congratulations on the win

Congratulations Chris, as others have said, a great portrayal of sound.

Above, Mike's Roar; A lovely composition, although with the calm sky, perhaps a shot tighter into the water may have projected the sound over a little stronger.

Below, Mark's Tormented Soul; Cracking work ( I can see a series of this image as silk screen prints with different 2 colour ways) it really gets the notion of sound across, and my second favourite this week.

Thank you for the vote Steve, much appreciated; I think in hindsight that perhaps darker trousers may have helped in balancing the composition in my shot and I probably should have PP a bit more to tone them down or altered their colour to a more earthy tone. Or planned the shot more, by asking my model to put a darker pair of trousers on

Well done ogga. Great win and it was a fine, fun image.

My vote went to Andy, I really liked the colours and the starburst sun on the sax and in such a peaceful location could imagine a soulful tune coming from the instrument.

Above and below.

Above - Whistle Blower - DigiDiva - I really liked this one and it was in the mix for my vote. The vignette in the corners really drew attention into the image.

Below - It's 4 U - Highland Scenics - I really liked the low key treatment but as wavemachine said, I would have liked to see it ringing, even if it was with a withheld number to give me that sense of sound.

Thank you to rbarry for my vote, I think that I really do need to find a nicer clock with a stronger second hand to carry that shot off.

Another great week of images though. Well done everybody.

Great win Ogga...I was actually torn between yours and Marks...but Marks "screamed" the loudest.

Thanks for the critique guys...funny you mentioned the white background, I was going to do that, but change to black! DOH!....And the ringing...I never thought of that...seems so obvious now its mentioned tho

I basically draped an old black shirt over a whisky box (drunk the whisky first) and propped my Work mobile (note the scruffiness) up against it at a jaunty angle. I unlocked the keypad to light the screen and buttons. Was tricky to get a good balance between a shutter speed and correct exposure to have the screen and phone detail.

I went for an ISO of 800 to get a shutter speed correct for the screen and compensated for the predicted slight underexposure of the handset by using a led torch to light the handset part. I then just tweaked the levels in X3.

Silversnapper,

When I first saw your image the definition was terrible, it was almost as though you had posted the thumbnail rather than the full size image. For that reason I didn't get it, it was only until later when the final image was published that I got it straight away. Tic Toc was so apt; you could tell it was a ten second exposure without the exif data! I'm sure you would have scored higher if the right image had been posted initially.

For those that maybe missed it, have another look:
