D3100 charger

Hi I wonder if someone can help me? I recently bought my camera and put the UK adapter on to the charger. I now want to take it off and use the US pins when I travel there soon, is it save to do this as i didn't want to force it and have it break.

Hi Toastie, welcome to the forum

What do you mean by "take the UK adaptor off"? Most Nikon chargers are a box which you attach the battery to and a cable which has the mains plug on one end and a plug on the other which attaches to the "box" bit of the charger.
If you got more than one cable with the charger you should be able to just pull the cable out and swap them over. Otherwise you could just use a travel adaptor.

Thats assuming you got the correct charger. It should look like this...

No cable on this one, Chris, the charger plugs straight into the wall socket.

Toastie, your D3100 manual says "attempting to forcibly remove the plug adapter could damage the product". Usually, there will be a piece of plastic that clips the adapter into place, you'll have to move that so that it's no longer engaged with whatever it clips into, and slide the adapter back off. You could just plug your UK charger into a UK-to-US adapter, if you don't want to risk it or can't do it.

Ah, my mistake

Then, yeah, the answer is get a travel adaptor like you would for any other bit of electrical kit.

it is possible to disconnect the charger from the plug by CAREFUL use of a small flat head screwdriver to persuade the pins to disengage. But as Chris-P says its easier and safer to use a travel adapter
