This looks like something that I have been looking at in a photo magazine..Im guessing if the photo was taken now with the snow on the trees, it would be even more stunning. Where in Northumberland is it?

Hi DigiDiva, The photo was taken approx. 5 years ago whilst we were on holiday. If I remember it was taken in the Alnwick area. I recently learned how to upload photo's onto this site and then attemped to upload photos. onto this site without success until I read a thread by Chris P and Lurkalot. Their explained the process more clearly than in faq. The upload of the photo was an experiment to see if I had got the process right. More photos to follow if I can remember which buttons to push. . I'll have more time to do these things now as I recently retired from work. See my photo album, albeit small at the moment and my previous posts.

Best wishes, John (Baffled)

Hi John,

The biggest thing for me is the foot path. I would have aimed to have looked for a position where the trees were aesthetically pleasing and the path was visible throughout the frame. This would create a nice lead into the photograph and guide the viewer through the image.

I have to say though, your photograph is better than anything I produced on my old Kodak easyshare compact camera lol.

Kindest regards,

Aaron

Hi John

Generally I really like it. The trees are great and I love the repetition of shape. I sort of agree with Aaron about the path and the leaves in the top right are distracting. The thing is, they're only distracting because there isn't really a focal point. Nothing really drags you into the shot.
I think it might work better as a more abstract crop or even in black and white as both would help add more viewer direction.

I think a higher viewpoint would help achieve both Chris and Aaron's points - not always possible I know unless you have your emergency inflatable stepladder with you

I would quite like to have seen the roots of the tree on the left - dropping the camera angle a tadge would have shown where the tree comes from and maybe add an anchor point for the eye to land on before following the path...

and the higher viewpoint I mention could have then given a nice lazy meandering path through the woods.

It's still a nice shot though

Cheers
Andy

Thanks for your comments I'll certainly take them on board and no Andy I didn't have the blow up step ladder with me at the time. Lol. I'll upload some recent Photos taken with my Nikon D90, which I am trying to get to grips with. Thanks again, John
