That is genius lol No I don't have one but I am tempted to get one now and try that. Will the camera be safe? I'd hate for it to fall off and smash. I have heard about balloons that take your camera up into the air.

Remember to get a remote shutter release as well, could look a bit daft wafting a camera in the air if you can't fire the shutter

Funny you should say that....I use this technique quite a lot. Extend monopd, hoist as high as you can & use little radio trigger to fire the shutter.

Great shots, Cathus. I think I will drop the hint to my husband that I want a monopod for Christmas :-)

and another thing, I use the same technique the other way round too, i.e. I put the camera on the floor looking up. This depends on whether I have the monopod attached of course, sometimes I just kneel on the floor & hold the camera on the ground.

Then there's all sorts of other techniques you can employ....

it's all about thinking outside the box & trying different techniques, which also come in handy in other aspects of photography.

I found this pic on facebook & just got permission from the photographer to use it.
It shows me using the monopod technique in action on Sunday.

Really good :-) Looking at the photo I will need to make sure that I get a good monopd because I'd hate to drop my camera. The other angle was good too. Its so easy to just stand up and take a shot , varying the angles like you have done adds something extra.

This is another one that the Hurricanes turned into an advert for the team, the actual advert has text across it & was used by the Uni on their fresher's fairs.

Thats a great shot too, is it mist, dust, dry ice? I don't know if we have American football around here. I am wanting to get into some sort of sports photography so I can add some images to my portfolio for when I apply to uni. I want to do either photojournalism or documentary and figured some sports images would add some variety to my portfolio. We do have an ice hockey team near by and basketball, I will have to check out American football.
