Thumbs up CHAT: Weekend Comp 3rd -5th Dec 2010 – Black & White

So Ladies and Gents, this weekend's theme is black and white.

My thinking on this is to challenge you all to go and look for something that would look good in black and white, see the scene, object, whatever in black and white before you press the shutter. Not something that looks good in colour and then just convert to black and white.

Open house on editing.

Just to get things rolling Part of a late 1800 early 1900's horse drawn haycutter (Deering Croix made in Bristol ) now adding sculptural detail in the garden. The rusty cast iron peeping out of the snow provided excellent contrasts for a B&W photo. Perhaps good for Sepia effect too.

Well I'm glad I took the time for a few takes yesterday, with the challenge that snow brings in taking shots that are not overly clipped. With the overnight rain the snow has almost gone and the slush seems to make everything look dull or grubby. A version in Sepia effect has been uploaded into my gallery, and perhaps it's a shame it's not mono tones this week.

Taking Mike's brief literally I have spent a frrrrreezing cold hour on the harbour wall in Carrickfergus trying to recreate a black and white image of the castle that I had seen recently. I can't decide which one to go for - cropped or not - star filter (new toy - like the effect but a little too strong) or none. haven't even thought about an edit yet!!!!!!
