I take photos to get the world around us and document life. I like to get out of the realm of sticking to the rules and be a bit different nothing is black & white as long as people like the work then i am happy. not all my work sit well with photographers and not all the time do I explain my work. I use an entry level camera with manual lens now.
my best work is close up portraits but i am trying to branch out and not stick to one, but you can't be good at everything what got me in to photography is art I took to long over a projects. So and painting with light is a great place to start. Sometimes i forget i not painting with water color anymore and can't leave white burn out on the page or can I ?

I find if you walk around with a camera, you take notice of all the amazing things that you wouldnt normally look twice at, and then take a shot that will hopfully do it justice

I work in a high stress industry. Photography calms me after a hard day's work.

Taking pictures is my hobby. I really like to catch moments, that will stay bright forever)Ok...almost forever)
To express the beauty, or to catch somebody's soul... Really makes life full of sence...

Well, I am brand new here and this is my first post. This thread is very inspirational and I have loved reading all of your stories! As to the reason I take photos, it started when my little boy who is now 7, was born. My husband and I had tried for 7 years to have a child and we were told we would never be able to have children of our own. I won't go into all the details of what we went through, but after a ton of prayers from us, our friends and family, as well as our church family, I became pregnant with my miracle little boy! When he was born I wanted to photograph every single moment of his life! That is when it happened.... the world as I knew it completely changed for me. I began to see the world in a totally different and new way and I was hooked. I now do not go anywhere without my camera. I also suffer from depression and I feel that God not only gave me my beautiful son but at the same time the gift of photography. These two things have brought me more joy in the past 7 years than I have had in my entire life! I now take photographs because I don't want to forget a single moment of my son's life or mine!

I went from film to gap years then Birding with scope and Bins, a digital compact came along and then the bug to combine the two came full on and I went DSLR and long lenses. The pleasure of combining both hobbies has taken me on adventure holidays to places I would never dreamed of going before. Just sheer personal pleasure. In particular I have fallen for the countries of Southern Africa and Namibia is my utter favourite. Thank you Birds and Cameras for a fulfilled life.
