Unhappy Shopping

Just wanted to post a couple of photos for crtique. Was on a shopping trip in chester , so walked along the river and saw this Cormarant, it was quite a long way off, the second I wanted to show movement in the passers bye so slowed my shutter speed down, what do you think ?

Very Nice Mark, both shots.
Love the second one - DOF is superb, exposure great and contrast spot on for my eyes!

For me the blurry figures give a sense of time, the buildings have been there for ages but the people come and go...

I like them both Mark.

The cormorant is very sharp with loads of greta detail in it. I have tried this sort of shot many a time and by the time I find a good angle the bl**dy things have folded their wings and taken flight.

The street scene is superb. You have found a good vantage point, the dof is spot on and the slow shutter speed has given some great movement. Not a criticism but I wonder if a little grain may give it a bit of a boost (saw that in an e-mail that I had where the 'expert' tog was giving some advice).

Cormorant shot is very good, but I'm put off by the amount of blue - obviously a clear sky being reflected around. If it was a Raw shot you could reduce the blue - there's even some on the bird's back - by altering the Temperature in Camera Raw processing, or moving the Tint control a little. Could also be done with a Warming Filter in post-processing (Photo Filter adjustment layer).

Street scene is superb.... and shows off Chester very nicely - worth sending their Council or Tourism Office a copy.

Great shots , Mark. I love the colours in the first one and how you captured the bird spreading its wings. I love the second one because of the motion blur, perpective and great b/w. Did you take that off the clock tower?

Did you know that Winter watch is on in Chester tomorrow? Its a great event to photograph if you are close by. Its on again next Thursday if you miss it.

Very very nice, particularly the Chester shot. Just the right amount of movement in the foreground people.

Hello Mark your first shot of the Cormorant is perfectly sharp and crstal clear well done.
Your second shot again pefectly focused great DoF a\nd perfectly focused good use of shutter to show movement in foreground maybe a slightly slower shutter speed just to excenuate the figures more and give greater sennse of movement but only a personal choice otherwise two cracking shots well done would be happy to hang on my wall.
Cheers Bill

Congratulations Mark, both are great shots.

The Eastgate clock bridge is probably the most iconic, and subsequently the most photographed object in Chester. I admire your resistance in publishing yet another view of the clock; what most tourists miss is the vantage point the bridge itself offers.

On the technical side, what equipment and settings did you use to capture that shot? Did you use/need an ND filter?
