wide angle lens

I am unable to make my mind up between the Sigma 10-22mm and the Canon 10-22mm lens.
There are excellent reviews of the Sigma and the price is good, however I have heard some reports that some of these lenses are not up to the same standard of sharpness.
This would not be a problem if purchased new as they could be returned but I am in the second hand marked.
The Canon is far more expensive (second hand) but I do want to end up with a good lens and reduce the risk of getting a poor lens.
So two questions, Am I being over cautious about the sigma lens and secondly if I took 2 photographs using a Canon 50D and printed these out at A4 would I see any difference in the prints, all other things being equal.....same lightening, same exposure ect

Have bitten the bullet and purchased the Canon 10-22mm lens (second hand)
Took a walk around the local park and took some sample photos..... amazing. Can't understand how I have managed without this lens.
I will be using it on a 50D and suspect it will get more use than my Canon 17-55mm. It certainly seems as sharp as that lens.
It would be interesting to know how a wide angle lens on a cropped frame camera compares to the view you would get using a FF camera with a standard 17-55mm lens assuming you were stood in the same spot ?

You're getting the same fov as a 16-35mm on a full frame (or 16-35.2mm to be more precise).
